 Robin reported:

County:

  • Dave Howard  introduced Bill Haggerty whaggerty@ladpw.org who is a new deputy, John Heller is the architect
    • Talk about community building.  Share thoughts about building.
  • John Heller made a list from the Town Council Meeting and discussed and asked for comments about each aspect of a community building
    • Full sized gymnasium – cannot do. Only budget for 4,000 sq foot building. If it were just gym, it would be about 4000. Jackie Robinson is 10,000 sq feet
    • Allow for future expansion
    • Multipurpose room as a community building
  • John Jones
    • Can’t there be movable internal walls?
  • John Heller
    • The small kitchen needs permanent walls
    • The building cannot be in the grassy area because of 12 in water line easement.  They thought the water line was abandoned; it is active
    • Parks wants the building on high ground for visibility
    • Possibility –locations of community building
      • Near baseball diamond- want it near parking lot
      • Right next to parking lot
      • To west of lot
      • Further west is  lower and we have the visual component aspect of the building to consider. The line of site from the park office in the community building is a potential plus to security
      • If you move the present phase it will push the time back
      • Don’t touch the basketball court.  Think of the community building to the West.
      • Could be looking down on the roof of the building.
      • A lot of the money for seniors is dedicated- so you can’t use the money for other services. It would be good to dedicate the money later for a separate senior’s building, but presently keep the building multi-use.  Consider-A lockable room for seniors – a storage cabinet  would be enough in the beginning. Storage closets rather than a room.
      • Moving panels – away into pockets – 2 or 3 dividers tops
      • Kitchen- definitely will be one. Microwave and hot plate storage cabinets. Refrigerator. Outside roll up door.
      • Bathrooms – if inside outside- different standard of fixtures to reduce vandalism
      • Electric plugs and sound/computer wiring ready
      • Computer lab at Community center
      • Challenger Community Complex
        • What about building the gymnasium at Challenger with Boys and Girls and Wilsona as partners?
        • John Heller will carry that idea to the rest of the County teams.  The idea is good because the County likes to build in partnerships.
        • Westside of Lancaster- George Lane Park is a gymnasium being built as a partnership
      • Room at Vista – raised stage – no – takes up room and cannot be used for other things
        • Portable stage would work; doesn’t have to be as safety oriented. Portable ramp.
      • Ceiling height- vaulted ceiling – more versatile – push as high as possible  within budget.  Windows – not on the south
      • Weddings ???–
      • 100 adults a typical meeting--- Expect legal max 300 people
      • Future expansion
        • Friendly wall between basketball court and playground if we eventually move the basketball courts and build the community center where the basketball courts are to now go.  Easy to move courts.
      • Landscaping- zero scape
      • Archeology meeting next week-will report next Lake LA Park Board meeting about any new developments
      • The trailer will be there
    • Programming
      • Judy – seniors need a building
        • A lot of retired people
        • 35-40 people
      • Lynnette – Meals on Wheels
      • Senior meals and recreation
      • Dominic-
        • Many uses for children and youth
    • Judy – a utility building was to be so equipment could be handed out
      • Instead a pad will be build between the building
